General Structure
Within SMIF, each Portfolio Manager (PM) is responsible for a group of analysts. PMs will help identify stocks through extensive screening and will also present on their own picks as well. It is also their responsibility to help analysts learn more about valuation and financial analysis. The portfolio managers, together with the SMIF executives, then report to the faculty advisory board, who in turn reports to the TWU School of Business and finally the finance committee for Trinity Western University.
Investment Decisions
As this is a "Student Managed" investment fund, 100% of the investment decisions will be made by the Research Analysts and Portfolio Managers. However, the SMIF Executive Team (Including the Portfolio Managers, Fund Director, Faculty Advisors and External Advisors) will have the ability to veto any investment decision that they believe may not be in the best interest of the Fund.
While the Portfolio will be monitored and tracked on a daily basis, the entire TWU SMIF will meet on a bi-weekly basis to conduct the following: (1) evaluate the portfolio's performance, (2) pitch individual stocks, (3) make sale recommendations, and (4) sharing insights of the overall industry and economic conditions.. Buying and selling decisions will be based on a majority vote.
Analysts and portfolio managers will pitch stocks at bi-weekly meetings according to their expertise and industry of choice. These presentations will focus on financial analysis and DCF valuations, while industry overviews, peer valuation, and economic outlook are also considered.
